After nearly a year of searching, the National Energy Technology Laboratory has named a new director to lead the country's fossil fuel research and development efforts.
Grace Bochenek was most recently the first chief technology officer of the U.S. Army Materiel Command. "If a soldier shoots it, drives it, flies it, wears it, eats it or communicates with it, (Army Materiel Command) provides it," the division's website explains.
There, Ms. Bochenek was principal technical adviser on all engineering and scientific activities. Before that she was director of the U.S. Army Tank and Automotive Research division.
NETL's lead post was left empty last September when former Director Anthony Cugini was removed and later indicted on obstruction of justice charges stemming from an internal investigation into his dealings with agency contractors and outside groups.
Mr. Cugini, of Upper St. Clair, committed suicide in January. The following month, the U.S. attorney filed to dismiss the indictment, and the case has since been closed.
